Walk and Talk Therapy in Los Angeles Griffith Park and LA River
For some people, sitting across from a therapist in an office isn't the setting in which conversation comes most naturally. Walk & talk therapy offers the same psychotherapy I provide in my office, but while walking together outdoors in Los Angeles.
I offer walk & talk sessions in Griffith Park and along the LA River. Being in motion can make it easier to think, talk, and allow conversation to unfold without the intensity of sitting face-to-face for an entire session. Some people simply prefer being outside or find that walking helps them feel more present and engaged.
What is walk & talk therapy?
Walk & talk therapy is psychotherapy conducted while the therapist and client walk together rather than sitting in an office. Our work can include the same concerns we might address in a traditional session—anxiety, relationships, identity, parenting, life transitions, or patterns that leave you feeling stuck.
Walking isn't a workout and there is no particular pace to maintain. We can walk slowly, stop, sit for part of the session, or adjust according to what feels comfortable that day.
Is walk & talk therapy right for me?
You might enjoy walk & talk therapy if you:
find it easier to talk when you're moving
spend much of your day sitting or looking at screens
feel more comfortable talking side-by-side than face-to-face
enjoy being outdoors and want therapy to be part of that time
find that movement helps you think or stay present
You don't need to be athletic or particularly outdoorsy. The point isn't exercise; it's simply having another setting in which therapy can happen.
Where do sessions take place?
I currently offer walk & talk therapy in two Los Angeles locations:
Griffith Park
Sessions begin near the Griffith Park Visitors Center at 4730 Crystal Springs Drive.
LA River
Sessions begin near the Taylor Yard Bridge, with access to the LA River path in the Frogtown area.
We'll establish a specific meeting place before our first session.
Privacy and walk & talk therapy
Outdoor therapy is naturally different from meeting in a private office. Although we can choose routes and locations that provide some privacy, we may encounter other people while walking, and complete privacy can't be guaranteed.
Before beginning walk & talk therapy, we'll talk about confidentiality, what we'll do if we encounter someone either of us knows, and whether outdoor sessions feel appropriate for the work we're doing.
Walk & talk doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing choice. We can also use office, telehealth, or outdoor sessions at different times depending on what makes sense.
Getting started
I offer walk & talk therapy for clients in Los Angeles as an alternative to meeting in my Echo Park office or by telehealth.
